MIRI: The authorities are still in the dark about the fate of a Nepalese crew of an oil vessel reported missing here 10 days ago.

The search and rescue efforts have so far been fruitless.

Deputy police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, when contacted yesterday said the police were still looking for the man reported missing on Jan 26.

“We have no proof to say that the victim drowned as no one had seen him fall into the river.

“As of now, we are classifying the case as ‘missing person report’ and we are working with police stations from other districts to search for him,” he said.

Bishod Kana, 21, is believed to have fallen from the oil vessel into Miri River at the Krokop 3 jetty here on Jan 26.

His crew mates lodged a police report around 4.30pm Sunday when they realised that he was not at the vessel at 5am of the same day.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation conducted by Fire and Rescue Department led by Law Poh Kiong was later called off.
