SIBU: Sarawak BN can grab two-third majority come the 11th state election as it has the strategies, according to Tupong assemblyman Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, who mentioned yesterday that BN was unfazed by DAP’s ‘Impian’ Sarawak.
“It is important for BN component parties to work extra hard and not be complacent as we know that the opposition will be working hard to ensure they win Sarawak.
“But we will be working even harder driven by our own ‘impian’ to retain Sarawak with two-third majority,” Daud, who is Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs), said.
“They (the opposition) have been talking about the ‘impian’ Sarawak for many years. And
in federal level, they thought they could take over the government but proven in the last general election, they lost,” he corroborated.
The term of the current state legislative assembly expires on June 19, 2016 but the chief minister has the prerogative to dissolve the assembly earlier.
Asked if BN could retain all the rural seats in the next state election, Daud opined there was no reason for them to lose ground.
“Through our experience in the parliamentary election, we didn’t lose any of the rural seats. Therefore, there is no reason why we should lose the rural seats now,” he said.
On the opposition’s intention to avoid overlapping seats to take on BN one-to-one, he said this was a democratic country.
This would not make any difference as seen in the majority garnered by BN in all elections, he added.
“For instance, in my area, they stood one-to-one against me and still they lost,” Daud said.
Asked on the mindset of young voters, he said: “Overall, I am not certain.
“Through experience in our last parliamentary election, as far as Bumiputeras are concerned, the young voters are with us.”
“Young voters in Sarawak are not influenced by the opposition as seen in the peninsula,” he added.
