KUCHING: Thirty-nine students doing diploma studies at Nusantara Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) received their scrolls during a graduation ceremony held at the Islamic Information Centre here yesterday.
The graduates were from the Diploma in Accountancy, Diploma in Business Management, Diploma in Secretaryship and Diploma in Information Technology programmes.
Augustus Jong from the Diploma in Information Technology course was awarded the Most Outstanding Academic Award.
Minister of Housing Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg graced the ceremony with his presence and imparted a few pearls of wisdom to the graduating students.
“A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and that is exactly what you will be doing after your graduation,” he said in his speech.
He added that the graduation was the culmination of their hard work.
“Every one of you have risen to the challenge with excellence, and have done well both within the classroom and in extra-curriculur activities meant to develop your talent and character,” said Abang Johari.
He urged them to bear in mind that learning must continue, as the graduation was only one step towards their goals.
“There will be many more and you will do well, if you adopt the mindset of learning all the time and from everyone.
“You will need this mindset because the real world you exit into is competitive and very aggressive,” he said.
Also present at the graduation ceremony were NIIT chief executive officer Anderson Voon and NIIT principal Professor Dr Andrew Tiong.
