MIRI: As if chasing after criminals and keeping the city safe is not enough, police here now have to deal with a sleazy case involving women’s undergarments – dirty ones at that.
A man, believed to be in his 60s, has been hanging women’s undergarments, including bras and panties, in front of a beauty salon in Jalan Sida here since the middle of last month, and nobody knows why.
Each time the undies, which looked unwashed, are removed, the man, apparently a pervert, would return with more. All in all, he hung up more than 40 undergarments, but his face has been captured on CCTV (closed-circuit television).
The first time this incident happened was on Dec 17, and it got the beauty salon’s owner and workers dumbfounded.
They removed the clothing, but found more undies and panties in front of their shop a week later.
It recurred earlier this month, and that’s when the piqued salon owner decided to install a CCTV.
“As this incident kept happening, I decided to install a CCTV as I wanted to know who has been doing this,” said the owner, who requested anonymity.
When the culprit showed up again on Friday (Jan 10), his act of hanging the underwear on a bamboo blind outside the salon was captured on film.
The salon owner lodged a police report at the Miri Central Police Station yesterday afternoon, and police are now investigating the culprit’s motive.
