Eight state projects in PWD’s pocket last year

KUCHING: The Public Works Department (PWD) had completed eight projects in the state last year involving a total cost of around RM446.13 million.

According to Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusuf, among the projects were the upgrading of Jalan Tun Jugah/Jalan Song Interchange costing RM55 million, Jalan Pujut 7-Tudan, Kuala Baram in Miri costing RM130 million, Pandaruan Bridge in Limbang and Batu Kawa Bridge including a 5km road costing RM50 million.

“Other completed projects also include the Tabuan Bridge which includes the upgrading of the road from two to four lanes costing RM60 million, the Kuala Tatau/Kuala Serupai/Kuala Balingian Phase 1 road costing RM40 million and the road from Rumah Kita/Ugap to Sk Rantau Panjai in Kapit 6km costing RM60 million and the Mukah Federal Guest House costing RM4.93 million,” he elaborated.

He added that one uncompleted project from last year was the Jalan Wawasan connecting Kuching to the new Federal Administrative Complex where he added that follow-ups would be done to ensure that the project will be completed this year.

“A total of RM241,534,400 has been received by the state PWD for various projects and 95 per cent of the amount has been used for all related projects,” he noted.

On this year’s projects, Fadillah said among the major projects were the upgrade of the Jalan Matang to Stapok road including a connecting bridge across the Sarawak River which would cost RM145 million, the upgrade of Jalan Tanjung Kidurong to Taman Perindustrian Samalaju, a16km stretch where the two-lane road will be upgraded to a four-lane stretch costing RM120 million and 95 overtaking lanes around the Pan Borneo Highway.

“Another two projects include the Jalan Tedungan to Pandaruan and Jalan Mengkalap Sindunin in Lawas,” he added.
